Rappel for a Reason! Special Olympics New York Goes Over the Edge to Fundraise at the Crowne Plaza Albany

One hundred participants will have the opportunity to rappel down the State St. side of the Crowne Plaza downtown.

Albany, NY – Over the Edge promises to be the most extreme fundraiser of the year!!

Over the Edge is a unique opportunity for individuals to rappel off the Crowne Plaza in Downtown Albany while raising much needed funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York. This one of a kind fundraiser has shown incredible success for Special Olympics organizations across the country. In November, Special Olympics Hawaii raised over $170,000 by sending 120 participants Over the Edge of the Sheraton Waikiki! We hope to mirror this success locally!

The Albany event will be held on August 20th, 2010 with an exclusive media day on August 19th. Approximately 100 “Edger’s” will rappel 18 stories down the State Street wall of the Crowne Plaza Albany. Each participant will be required to raise a minimum of $1,000 to take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity. The chance to rappel is completely exclusive and can only be done in this area through Special Olympics New York! Our goal is to raise $100,000 for athletes across the State.

Local media has already taken up the charge to support this extreme event. Special Olympics New York has the support of Mayor Jerry Jennings, Townsquare Media (WGNA, Buzz 105.7, ESPN Radio and Q103), Albany Police Department’s Jimmy Miller and our first participant – John Gray of Fox 23 News.

Special Olympics New York has 48,761 athletes across New York State compete and train in 22 Olympic-style sports throughout the year, always and no cost to them or their families.
