2012 State Fall Games, October 19th & 20th
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
The City of Glens Falls will host a press conference on Tuesday, September 18th welcoming Special Olympics New York back for their State Fall Games in 2012. Last year over 900 athletes and coaches from across the state came together for this culminating event of the Fall season. Competitions will take place on Saturday, October 20th with our Community State Fall Games Festival and Opening Ceremonies on Friday, October 19th at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Fall Games is one of three annual state games and more than 3,500 total competitive experiences held each year throughout New York. Nearly 1,000 coaches and athletes will participate in State Fall Games, with five hundred volunteers from surrounding communities needed to support the event. New York State Senator Betty Little will be the Honorary Chair of the event.
Volunteers are needed to fill key roles in support of the Fall Games competitions:
Volunteer assignments will be given out up to September 28th; after that date all walk in volunteers are welcome. For more information and to register, please download the volunteer registration form or email volunteer@nyso.org. Volunteers can be individuals or groups.
Athletic competition takes place Saturday, October 20th in 7 Olympic-style sports:
Special Olympics is the largest amateur sports organization in the world. With 55,698 athletes, Special Olympics New York is the largest chapter in North America and the 6th largest chapter in the world. Special Olympics New York athletes train and compete year-round in 22 sports, the Young Athletes Program and the Motor Activities Training Program – at no cost to the athlete, their families or their caregivers.
